I have a custom tank and want to move the coils to the front of the frame. The coils I have a old Martek and have post at either end.I have a dayna S ingnition. Do I need to connect the posts to the frame? I am not sure what they are for? If the are grounds, can I run a grond wire from them to the frame? Thanks

Hi matt1,

any coils should have two posts. One of them connects to +12V (switched, from the kill switch) - the black/white cable. The other post goes to the points (or the Dyna) and they connect to the ground. Wire color is yellow and blue, you should find these colors also on the Dyna cable.

The ignition circuit is:

Battery +12V <-> Ignition switch <-> Kill switch <-> Coils <-> Points or electronic replacement <-> Ground

Oh, I see... the mounting posts need a ground connection. The secondary (high voltage) circuit connects to ground and the spark plug cable. You need ground on the mounting post, otherwise you will get no or only a very weak spark.
